Review of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by Jeremy D — 19 Jul 2014
A movie making benchmark , David Lean's "Lawrence of Arabia" will be regarded as the greatest war epic of all times. Eloquently written and a brilliant portrayal of the titular figure by Peter O'Toole equally supported by Omar Sharif and Alec Guinness , this all time best epic swells in the marvel of performances of such precision.
The film , engorged with gorgeous visuals , extreme production values and probably one of the best art direction of all times , ranks as one of the best ever made in the history of cinema. Much praise much be given to the style and direction of the cinematographer , the sound editors , the costume designers and all those thousands of extras used in the film so much so as a film of this scope in today's world will arguably be the biggest budget movie produced.
The story follows the titular character's journey through the length of the film , the rise and the disintegration and finally a sense of redemption. It tackles complex thematic material which are very subtle and nicely done through the expressions of Peter O'Toole.
The cinema production spent enough time on getting the timeless feature of this feature making the technicalities of the film as close to perfect as it possibly can be.The outstanding score written by Maurice Jarre runs through the threads of the movie.
Ultimately , this achievement would be considered as arguably the best cinematic achievement and certainly as the best epic of all times.
