Review of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by Anssi V — 10 Oct 2011
Definitely an epic movie. Everything it does is huge. The acting is powerful, the scenery is beyond majestic, the cinematography is great and the music leaves you speechless. So yeah, it deserves its praise, more than easily.
It mainly rides on its main actor, Peter O'Toole, his amazing charisma and the landscape, but the story is very impressive as well - and it's based on real events, which makes it even more impressive.
Sure it takes some liberties with its source material, but it's a movie, not a documentary. So yes, I enjoyed this one. If I'd have to nitpick, I would say that it is a long film, very much so, which may frustrate some moviegoers that do not have the patience to let the story unfold.
The acting, which I personally liked very much, is also a bit... overly large. Hammy, if you prefer the term. I think that it fits the style of the film very well, but some may yet again find it frustrating.
Still, a magnificent movie. Not the best I've ever seen or the most memorable, but you could clearly see the sheer style in it.
