Review of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by Jingbo W — 27 Nov 2010
The vastness, silence and beauty of the desert never looked so real and enticing as in this flick, which propelled O'Toole to fame. Lean probably played around with the facts to show a white man uniting disparate Arabic tribes against the Turks.
The effeminate O'Toole looks radiant in white robes, his blue eyes piercing through the cinema screen. Was he a poofter? It's hard to say, but Lean shows him prancing in the desert wearing his white robe.
Hip hip hooray for the white men.
