Outstanding performances by Labeouf and Pearce can't save the film from its limited scope and lack of dedication towards the development of secondary characters. Fairly unconvincing set pieces and a cast, far too small for effective crime-drama cinema, ruin a justifiably-gritty interpretation of the Prohibition era.
