Review of Law Abiding Citizen (2009) by David S — 25 Nov 2012
Law Abiding Citizen had a lot of potential in becoming a game-changing thriller, however the end is extremely anticlimactic and disappointing. Blurring the lines a little bit between good and evil, it seems the movie wants the audience to be with Jamie Foxx' Nick Rice and against Gerard Butler's Clyde.
However, one sometimes finds Clyde's argument somewhat convincing and in fact hopes for a memorable ending where the labelled "good guys" do not in fact wrap up. Finishing too suddenly with the death of the wrong character not only deletes the message the movie tries during the first half, but through the actions of Foxx's character, it seems the character hadn't learned from their experience thus far.
The terrible ending makes the movie and the self-questioning aura a moot point. Something that started off brilliantly got massacred into unoriginality and stupid conformity just so ratings can be pleased.
Law Abiding Citizen is another victim of generalized trash.
