Review of Law Abiding Citizen (2009) by Spencer L — 08 Jan 2012

There seems to be a lot of discrepancy on this movie between the critics (25%) and the RT users (70%), and after watching the film I can start to see why. This movie doesn't exactly fit into one genre. It's a sort of thriller/horror/fantasy/psychological storyline. Because of this, the movie breaks the mold of typical action thrillers (which may have taken many of the critics out of their comfort zone). Even though the story may be a little far-fetched at times, it is very intriguing. This movie challenges you to decide which side to root for, which for me was constantly changing as the series of events unfolded and we learned more about the characters.

Bottomline is, this movie might be worth a viewing if you meet some/all of the following criteria:

A) you like suspenseful thrillers.

B) you don't mind bloodshed and gore (to the Texas chainsaw/Saw degree).

C) you are the type of person who lets a movie come to them (as opposed to questioning why each character makes every little decision).

D) you are somewhat interested in the workings and controversy surrounding the judicial system.

My overall rating: 6/10.
