Painfully trite dialogue - really just painful, but no different than the vast majority of gay movies - heaps of stereotypes, acting that ranges from empty to adequate, lots and lots of important messages that really need to get out there to you people so you'll understand like who we are (or more likely were 20 years ago maybe).
See "A Beautiful Thing" 1996 if you really want a gay coming of age movie that gets into your heart.
