Review of Latter Days (2004) by Katherine S — 13 Jan 2008
[font=Verdana]So= just purchased the film 'Latter Days' after being tremendously affected by its message after multiple viewings on Netflix. Entering this site in hopes of finding a good boost for my argument to allow it to be shown as one of the films in my school's Gay-Straight Alliance, I was dismayed to see it had been dismissed as a dumb, meaningless romance that was too sappy and cliched to really get anywhere. Personally, although my experiences have been limited to my own teenage years thus far, I found the movie to be less of a 'romantic dramedy' in the sense of the phrase today, and more of a sweeping love story with a very developed drama subplot. The acting was beautiful, although I personally can hardly stand Wes Ramsey, and the whole production was lovely. I can definitely say that this movie goes on my 'great movies of all time' list, no hesititation. And if you can view it without being snobby, I think it might end up on yours as well.
