Review of Latitude Zero (1969) by Blais E — 07 Jan 2011
Typically goofball and action-packed Japanese sci-fi spectacular clearly inspired by Jules Verne, presented by Godzilla's parents, the Toho Company, featuring Joseph Cotten as the leader of a peaceful, underwater civilization as well as the inventor and captain of an enormous, tricked-out super-submarine with wacky 60's gadgetry aplenty.
Enter Cesar Romero (In a typically hammy performance-) as Cotten's arch-nemesis, hell-bent on destroying the sub and peace-nik Cotten with a plethora of bizarre weaponry, and enlisting the aid of giant rats, insidious bat-people, and a flying lion to carry out his bidding.
Highly imaginative and vastly entertaining in Toho's usual cookie-cutter cartoonish fashion.
