Review of L'Atalante (1934) by Michael A — 13 Sep 2007
In a sense, there's nothing to this film - a very basic plot which doesn't really go very far, but to look at its plot would be to miss the point. This is one of the most striking uses of romanticism in films from 1930s France.
Every frame is exquisite. I haven't seen it for a while, but am very excited because I've just ordered the Jean Vigo DVD box set. Tragic that he died so young - I'm sure he would have gone on to make other great films.
