Review of Last Vegas (2013) by Tom R — 03 Feb 2014
(2 Stars) Seriously, stop comparing this to The Hangover. There's nothing here like The Hangover other than they're in Vegas for a bachelor party. I haven't decided if Last Vegas is really mediocre or poorly bland. Yes, the leads (Douglas, De Niro, Freeman, Kline) have good chemistry. Yes, Vegas looks pretty. Yes, it's unoffensive. But nothing of importance happens here. Is it The Hangover with old people? Nope. Is it a movie about men coming to terms with their mortality? Eh, not really. Is it funny? A couple parts, but you can probably make it through laugh-free. I don't know why this movie was made other than lets get all of these great actors together.
Even The Bucket List had more emotional weight to it. There are a few parts that are dramatic, but they feel as forced as the 50 Cent cameo. I don't think Last Vegas is terrible, but there's nothing here that's worth watching (and if you did, you would forget it quickly).
