Review of Last Vegas (2013) by Elijah C — 06 Mar 2015
Shockingly 'Last Vegas' is a fairly decent comedy. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously, which is a good thing. The jokes are half of time hits and half of the time are misses. But when they miss they miss HARD.
Yeah the movie dwells mostly on the run on joke that these characters played by Douglas, De Niro, Freeman, and Kline that they are old but want to relive the glory days of being young. Which is a good concept all around if you surround yourself with a smart script and talented actors.
During the movie it takes a sharp turn. And focuses on love and relationships as an whole. I believe that those little sub plots should've been left out of the movie. Even though the screenwriters tried to do that to make the movie much longer.
I still believe they should've just took it out. Yeah the movie is fun and has a lot of heart into it. But that doesn't excuse the bland production, paper cutout side characters, clichà (C)s throughout scenes, predictability in most scenes, and the list goes on.
When those flaws kick in I feel like that this movie is lazy and is nothing special. The drama in this movie is not bad but a little mellow and a throwaway conflict. But beside those big concerns the movie is fun.
Don't take this movie too seriously because this is not what they are going for. The movie is energetic and funny half of the time. I also believe you will enjoy this film and have fun with it as much as I did.
I will give 'Last Vegas' a C+ grading.
