Review of Last Train Home (2009) by Katherine C — 26 Jul 2010
This film brought to light how crowded and uncomfortable it must be to live in China's urban areas. For the subjects of this film, there really isn't a choice. Money can't be made, and families can't be supported in rural spaces any longer.
Once family members commit to migrating into the city, making the once-a-year, 2000 mile trek home for Chinese New Year becomes feat of physical and psychological endurance because millions of other people are also doing the same.
Train space is limited, and some people find themselves waiting outside a train station for days, standing in a crowd of thousands for a ticket home.
