Review of Last Train Home (2009) by Tim O — 25 Feb 2011
A beautifully shot, very intimate documentary tracing the lives of a working class Chinese family trying to make a better life for their children. The parents work in a factory thousands of miles away and only return home once a year to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
The kids are raised by their Grandparents and hardly know their parents at all. Its poignancy lies in the fact that the teenage daughter really doesn't appreciate what her parents are doing for her and drops out of high school just so she can work in a factory herself to get money to buy material stuff.
Great slice of life that most Americans, like me, are unaware.
