Review of Last Tango in Paris (1972) by Codie E — 31 Mar 2008
This is really not for everyone, but I can get a lot out of a film that basically spends some time with a man completely on the edge of normal life. There is something fascinating in the poetic absurdety of Brando's Paul.
He seems to be determined to languish in his own squaller and cause himself the utmost pain. And although it is loose, I can believe the attraction and want felt by Maria Schneider's character and the way she is drawn to, the frankly cruel, Paul.
Storarro's photography matches the poetry and somewhat detatched-from-reality tone of the film.
