Review of Last Tango in Paris (1972) by Roman P — 13 Apr 2009
Had this film been in another director's hands with a different star, it might not have had the same impact as it did upon its release. Thankfully, Bernardo Bertolucci elevates what could have been a simple soft core porno, to a work of humanistic art.
It might not be recognizable to the average moviegoer, but this film is very much a cinematic experience: the shots, the lighting, the dialogue, and the editing all make this film about two lovers who secretly meet to abandon their daily lives a genuine masterpiece.
Needless to say, Marlon Brando excels in his role providing an incredible amount of vulgar humor with a twist of poignance.
