Review of Last Tango in Paris (1972) by Josh E — 02 Oct 2009
Watching these two people writhe through their attraction and repulsion is difficult to do because they seem so naked. Just when it seems they've achieved a true connection, their bond is shattered by some lingering bitterness or defense.
The scene where Brando talks to his dead wife shows him at his most vulnerable; all of his sexual bravado is just a front. He keeps trying to go back to a more carefree time, but his ghosts are there to stay.
There are many difficult moments here but they do ring true.
