Review of Last Summer in the Hamptons (1995) by Sunnie W — 26 Jul 2010
Last Summer In The Hamptons is the tale of the Mora family's final summer in their long-time vacation retreat in the Hamptons, which has to be sold because of financial problems. The large family, led by matriarch Helene (Vivica Lindfors) is joined by a their acting students and Hollywood star Oona (Victoria Foyt).
Helene has been a great legitimate theatre actress for many years and Oona has done Hollywood and now wants to be legit. Connections are made, hearts brokena and family secrets are revealed in the antics of this stellar ensemble cast which includes Jon Robin Baitz, Andre Gregory, Melissa Leo, Martha Plimpton and an appearance by Henry Jaglom, himself, as a Hollywood director.
Foyt has some very funny scenes where she uses animals as characters to express herself. Lindfors is the cement that hold the hole bunch together. Expect long scenes with lots of dialog and introspection.
Sexual confusion, identity crises and sibling fireworks are all a part of the humorous and moving film. This was Lindfors last performance before she died and it's a great one. .
