Review of Last Shift (2014) by Sally A — 02 Apr 2016
So this is actually a really good horror movie! Huge surprise actually, the OTT poster and tag line actually don't do this film any favours. They make it seem like a low budget, satanist slasher when this is really a good old fashioned, haunted house, jump scare situation that is executed particularly well.
There are a few gaping plot holes to be sure. Homeless dude is never explained and there is the age old question as to why the hell she doesn't just get the f*%! out of there. But given the ending, well, I don't want to give anything away but those oversights can be viewed as something else.
I really enjoyed this, the scares are great, they don't reveal too much, the mood is spooky, eerie even and you care what happens to Loren which is a key to success in a horror film, you need to want the protagonist to live.
If the story was a little more tight, this would be a excellent genre film.
