Review of Last Passenger (2013) by The D — 28 May 2013
I've given this three stars but really over the whole eighty five minutes it is pretty average. It comes up to three stars mainly down to the short sharp sequences that offer some really well acted moments of pure tension. The film overall though was always going to be stretched to its limits by its very premise.
Set upon a late night train through London the last few passengers are thrown into a perilous life & death journey when the train is hijacked by an unseen & unknown assailant. At this point you're thinking Under Siege 2, it isn't and that's a good thing. It's a darker more sombre trip.
How do you keep an audience interested when the train only goes in one direction and there's only the in house squabbling of the last passengers to left to entertain you. The answer is you really can't. It's a more than adequate cast with Scott, Duncan, Schofield and even Tointon who manages to pull off a chav free performance. That said they have little to work with beyond their bickering. They make their attempts to prevent the train from crashing into the buffers. Will they make it, you have to watch to find out.
I enjoyed it but again I reiterate the point about it being stretched.
