Review of Last Ounce of Courage (2012) by Linda P — 13 Sep 2012
With all the name calling going back and forth, its important to understand that this is one side of a story that is played out again and again across our nation.
Does the first amendment mean a complete abolition of religion from any public place? Is that the definition of the 'respecting an establishment of religion', or is that 'prohibiting the free exercise thereof''.
There's a lot of reviews on here with a black and white opinion on the topic, without getting into the movie. Calling the 'right' bigoted, and the 'left' freedom hating, doesn't get us anywhere.
This is actually a more complex issue, but neither side will ever see that. I personally am more on the fence. I don't feel harmed when another faith has a logo or a presentation on.
In any case, the lead actor in this film is actually an accomplished character actor. I've been a fan of Marshall Teague since his recurring role on Babylon 5 as Ta'lon. With that he showed a great sense of timing and great control of dialogue.
I can't say the same for this film. As an attempt to make a compelling argument for he latter, it doesn't hold up. The production values are sub-par and based on Marshall Teague's previous performance in other venues, I can only say that the direction is completely off.
Maybe someday we can have a calm dialogue about this issue, but I doubt the lefties or the right wingers will ever let us have such a civilized discussion.
