Review of Last Holiday (2006) by Tonypolito — 09 Oct 2010
Pleasant enough and quite predictable feel-good film.
Queen Latifah can't afford the life-saving operation for her mysterious brain disease. So she cashes in her 401K and, inexplicably, instead using it to pay for the operation, she goes on a six-digit spending spree in Europe, living her life and dreams too long delayed. In the process, she touches and changes the lives around her for the better.
Remake of a 1950 film (never DVD released) starring Alec Guinness - a film that did not have the smiley-face finale seen here.
There's nothing at all wrong with the film, but it tastes far too much like a Krispy Kreme - airy, sweet and all its texture gone in an instant.
RECOMMENDATION: On this theme, the viewer will find more meaning, romance and humor in the Tom Hanks / Meg Ryan pair-up "Joe Versus The Volcano.".
