Review of Last Flag Flying (2017) by Tim M — 17 Nov 2017
'Last Flag Flying' is fine. It's just disappointing considering all the superstars involved. Richard Linklater co-wrote and directed this familiar road trip idea which is wasn't very funny no matter how hard it tried and how great the actors are.
Bryan Cranston, Steve Carell and Laurence Fishburne don't have the chemistry you'd expect out of actors of this quality. The bottom line is this just didn't work. The story here is forced and it's very square peg round hole.
Great seeing Cicely Tyson who has a small roll, but as someone who loves Linklater this is his weakest work in decades. This film overstays its welcome. There were several scenes that didn't need to be here.
Two hours and four minutes is about 20 minutes too much. Final Score: 6.0/10.
