Review of Last Days (2014) by Chris S — 20 Jan 2008
Loosely based on Kurt Cobain's 'last days'. Hard to enjoy, but - in the condition of fan of both Van Sant and Cobain - even harder not to. But let's face it, this was not made to be 'ikable'.
Made it immediately into the list of the most difficult films I've ever watched, although, with a second viewing, some aspects became more clear and some artistic aspects less unattainable. Almost no dialogue at all, very very slow, and featuring one of the greatest performances of Michael Pitt's short career.
On the other hand, visually stunning and beautiful cinematography and a pure lesson of filmmaking (another) by Van Sant. A strange, but somehow beautiful film.
