This joins the ranks of GERRY and ELEPHANT as yet another oppressive and taxing movie from Gus Van Sant. As impenetrable as it may be, I personally (and I know I'm in the minority here) get a peverse thrill rising to the challenge, or dare, he sets for the audience.
Particularly in this movie's case, if you stick with it until the end, you'll be rewarded with an ending so radical it almost makes you want to watch the damn thing all over again. Almost.
