Review of Last Days (2004) by Justin S — 22 Sep 2007
It seems to me that, somewhere along the line, Gus Van Sant has ended up being the prophet of anti-manipulative, minimalist cinema in America. In the same style as his similarly bleak "Elephant", Van Sant breaks down and simplifies the drug-fueled suicide of Kurt Cobain (while never overtly alluding to him).
What he ends up with is something like a modern folk tale of the Pacific Northwest.
