Review of Last Chance Harvey (2008) by Alysia V — 22 Jul 2009
Such a clean, sweet, fresh, adorable, humorous yet heartbreaking film. I loved it. I love the way these two characters randomly meet and charmingly banter back and forth with one another. Hoffman's character was so darling & random & unexpected & I loved it.
I love when he first meet's Emma's character & her phone rings & he says to her, "If that's for me, tell them I'm in the shower!" Fantastic! I so want to tell someone that sometime! I love that it only took those few moments together to make them not want to part and keep spending every minute with one another.
It's so precious to witness such a lovely and blossoming romance between the two. They have both been through so much and there are a lot of scenes that brought tears to my eyes. Towards the end when "Kate" mentions not wanting to let herself love him because it's going to hurt.
..at some point, it's going to hurt and how she's almost angry with him for taking that disappointment in her life away and for making her vulnerable like that. I completely know how she felt in that moment.
..fearing the possibly future heartbreak that could just destroy you. But life is about taking those leaps and hoping for the best. Everything about this film just made me feel warm and fuzzy inside, even through the saddened moments and all the tears.
An innocent, precious film that I simply adored. Bravo Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson!
