Review of Last Chance Harvey (2008) by Lee G — 02 Nov 2009
This movie moved along just great, until a twist at the end that felt forced, unnecessary, and left me feeling manipulated. Both Hoffman and Thompson have real chemistry together. Their interactions together feel real, and the "twist" was thrown in just for the sake of trying to add more drama.
It didn't work. Plus there were a little too many "romantic" montages. But there is a consistent romantic authenticity here that makes this film stand out more than most romantic films. It's a little reminiscent of "Love Story" with Annette Bening and Warren Beatty (also a good film).
