Review of Last Chance Harvey (2008) by Kevin C — 03 Jul 2010
Movie night with Iris.
We have seen the trailer 100 times so felt we knew the movie. On the plus side it's about older characters, and it tackles middle-age loneliness, insecurity and self-doubt.
The script is so predictable but is saved by Hoffman and Thompson. They actually make for an appealing, unorthodox couple â?? he twitchy and self deprecating; she graceful, world-weary and much taller. These performances, coupled with nimble dialogue, a brace of insightful moments and London looking lovely; lend the film a warmth and wisdom.
And what saved me from turning off (or walking off) was a father/daughter storyline - everytime!
