Review of Last Action Hero (1993) by Parker A — 20 Feb 2010
Really, the last great Arnold movie, Last Action Hero is packed with in jokes and jabs at the 80s action genre Arnold was such an important part of. From Lethal Weapon, to Die Hard, to Terminator 2, nothing is off limits.
The script has fun with lots of movie conventions like cars that explode with little provocation, tar that comes off with a napkin, and character clichés. A parade of cameos and good bit parts add to the fun.
You can't take this film seriously, which I think was a big problem for people when it first came out. I honestly don't think a lot of people understood that it was a comedy. There's a cartoon cat working at the police station for crying out loud.
Of course it's a comedy. A must for Arnold fans.
