Review of Last Action Hero (1993) by Baurushan J — 27 Jul 2013

This is a very underrated film and people should watch it and like it. The story is about Danny Madigan played by newcomer Austin O'Brien who is obsessed with Arnold Schwarzenegger movies titled Jack Slater and sneaks off to watch them at midnight.

Meanwhile the cinema owner Nick played by Robert Prosky gives him a magic ticket he got from India that can transport people to different dimensions. Jack uses to get into the film world where he meets Jack Slater played by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Jack has to go out of his way to protect Danny while Danny has to prove that Jack is in the film world. The evil Benedict played by Charles dance finds the ticket and discovers its powers and uses it to enter the real world along with the Ripper who killed Jack's son played by Tom Noonan.

The movie is not just a spoof of the comparison between the real world and the film world, it's also a spoof of the buddy cop genre. With that, we get a complex spoof and action mix that unfortunately a lot of people did not like when they first saw it because they just didn't understand it.

This is rarely one of those films that you can call watchable but is also definitely above average and you can watch it more than once in your free time. Oh and did I mention that John McTiernan directed and Arnold Schwarzenegger executive produced this movie? While the movie is good, it does have a few problems.

It over does the buddy cop fashion too much when we introduce Jack and Danny in the film world. Danny is one of the most painful, whiny, obvious-stating kids you'll ever see. In the end when the ticket accidentally releases a character from the film world, they don't send him back Last Action Hero gets a 7.
