Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Rochelle H — 23 Mar 2013
I had absolutely no expectations of this movie, but did have some trepidation. I hate that the description of the movie calls her a "sex doll". Why not call her a life-sized anatomically correct doll? This description works better for this movie.
Ryan Gosling is absolutely brilliant. I've always loved him in leading rolls of all types, but WOW. I believed him in this VERY different roll. The trailers kind of led me to think this would be a comedy of sorts. It's not.
It's so sweet & human & real. From a psychological perspective I ate it up; really brilliant! Can't say enough good.
It is slow-paced & a little quirky, but my tolerance level for quirk is quite low, so if I loved it maybe you will too. I cried unexpectedly, which was an interesting experience. You'll see what I mean ;).
