Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Cade H — 25 Mar 2015
Lars and The Real Girl has a plot that most people will look at and think it is a dumb, goofy comedy. The first part of the film is hilarious. Seeing an introverted Ryan Gosling order a life like sex doll off the internet and treat her like she is real is as funny as it sounds.
Slowly but surely the movie turns into an emotional, good hearted flick about a community and family coming together and helping out this guy who has obvious social problems. I did not think I would care about a relationship with a fake doll but somehow the director got me invested in their relationship and the relationship everyone in the town has with Lars and the doll.
This is not just a comedy, it is a romance/drama with amazing acting that is a diamond in the rough because I think most people will skip this over. Give this one a chance and you will find something to enjoy about Lars.
