Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Arseniy V — 22 Jul 2011
A lovely, touching character study. My mind has a little trouble with how unanimously enlightened the people around said character seem to be. But the way that this is depicted here doesn't seem impossible, nor implausible.
It doesn't even seem unrealistic. Just lucky. It would be lucky for a guy like Lars to live in a community so rich with patience and kindness. But so what? Such luck may be the rarer kind, but it certainly exists.
That side of us exists. Why not here? Why shouldn't a film be made about such an event, bringing out the best in those it touches? These things do happen. And when they happen, petty specifics aside, they probably do look something much like this.
