Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Michaell. — 26 Oct 2007
I loved this film. Unlike some "over-inlflated" critics, drunk on their own self-importance, it's simple and sweet. How refreshing to see a movie where people are kind to each other, instead of awash in irony.
Don't know about you, but I'm sick to death of irony. Gosling is breathtaking--sweet, damaged, and so real. The supporting cast is uniformly excellent--particularly Patricia Clarkson, as a psychologist/MD who doesn't need to hit us over the head with pop psychology.
"Lars" respects its audience as much as his town respects Lars.
