Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Iain R — 22 Feb 2012
Gosling excels in his script choices, as he has a knack for choosing simple stories that have a lot of room for inspiration and character development. Lars and the Real Girl is no exception: the easy story of an agoraphobic man using a surrogate lover to come out of his shell.
The story also admirably avoids the easy trap of mostly featuring people staring or denigrating the protagonist; instead the community around Lars, while initially skeptical, embraces Bianca (the doll) and in doing so, coaxes Lars out of his box.
Superb film.
