Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Danyne Z — 18 Mar 2012
Been wanting to see this film for such a long time, finally got the chance. Worth it, Ryan Gosling's character of Lars was so painfully shy and odd, clearly with issues, hard to get close to, but so pleasant overall you really still do want to try.
His sister-in-law really pulls out all the stops to keep him engaged, there were some laugh out loud moments in this movie. It was so touching how the town pitched in to make this strange scenario work for Lars, his brother was funny and touching also, as he realized his lack of sensitivity towards Lars in the past and grows much from the experience.
In fact, everyone grows from the experience of stepping up for Lars and his not so real girl, and seems to wind up enjoying themselves in the long run, understanding that it's for Lars. Sweet, great characters, a touch silly, but still having it's meaningful moments.
Truly enjoyed Ryan Gosling's performance and this movie overall.
