Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Analisa H — 26 Sep 2012
Ryan Gosling has now officially gone from a good actor to a great one in my book. Honestly, when I saw the trailer for this film, I was curious, but didn't expect it to be quite as fantastic as it was.
I rented it alongside another film, Dan in Real Life, which was much more highly anticipated, and yet, ironically, much more of a disappointment. (Review coming soon.) However, Lars and the Real Girl quickly made my top ten, as it was a brilliant melding of humor, quirkiness and truly moving moments.
Not only that, but for the first time in years, I've found a movie I feel okay showing to my family. Now, most of you know I'm not easily offended, but it's nice to find a film I can share with my parents, and they don't take kindly to the shock value that so many films exhibit in this day and age.
Lars managed to be original and fun without the not-so-conservative content of so many modern Indie films.
