Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Philip H — 04 Apr 2014
Lars and the Real Girl is the anti-500 Days of Summer. it's not manufactured to make you feel emotions or narrated to make you feel some sense of wonder. Lars and Bianca (the leading lady) are real. Just like you and me.
The Good: While the movie does not have a big star amidst its cast, all of the actors are beyond effective. it feels like no one's acting anymore. they feel like real people, just like you and me. there's nothing really extraordinary about the other aspects of the film. the score is so-so, cinematography is simple, no special effects... but the film brings us back to the time where the story is king. boy, the film's plot is dead simple, but it really never needed much. it's a perfect slice of life.
The Bad: Since we've been all trained by Hollywood to be wow-ed, some people may feel underwhelmed by Lars. Maybe it's a good thing. :D.
