Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Douglas D — 15 Apr 2014
This is an amusing, depressing, clever and overall brilliant film about love and loneliness. I don't have a clue how he did it, but the director, Craig Gillespie, managed to create a sex doll with an actual character formed by people around it, the fact that he was able to make other characters treat it like a normal human being without it seeming absurd is pretty impressive.
Clearly a very talented filmmaker that I will be looking out for in the future. Ryan Gosling is brilliant as usual, although I feel like his character was made in a way that almost tried to force the audience to like him, it works.
If your looking for a hilarious comedy, I wouldn't recommend watching this, but if your looking for a touching, sad film that you will be thinking about for a long time after, this is one of the first I'd recommend.
