Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Don J — 23 Oct 2014
Lars finds it very difficult to connect with people, he can't handle the pressure of day to day interaction and spends most of his time at home living in his brothers garage while his sister in law tries valiantly to get him to come over for dinner. One day he surprises everyone with Bianca, a half Danish, half Brazilian woman that he met on the internet who needs a wheelchair to get around and is a loving charity worker. Thing is, Bianca is a life size doll. His brother finds it hard to accept this as do some of the local townsfolk but because they all love and care for Lars they find it in their heart to accept his decision and this love he has found has made him outgoing and happy, that is all they care about.
It's a great movie, well acted, especially by Gosling, he is a great actor. I loved the look of the town, the way they shot the town, even though it looked very cold the characters made it feel warm and loving. The whole cast was great, some nice humourous touches whilst still being quite a dramatic film. Highly recommended.
