Review of Larry Crowne (2011) by Daisy M — 21 Nov 2011
Larry Crowne was definitely not award-winning material; but it sure did not deserve to be critized. It was a story about a man starting over after being fired from his job in retail for not having a college degree.
The story line was simple and straightforward. Let's be honest. It did not not need a lot to be successful. I mean, hello, it had Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. People might just wanted to see it for them.
Tom Hanks was, as always, charming. He made the audience care for Larry Crowne. Julia Roberts provided unexpected but nice comical appearance as teacher Tainot. I was not expecting to find this movie funny, it supposed to be a typical romantic comedy; however, the screenplay seemed to be a bit complicated, which did not exactly fit into the romantic comedy formula, but even so I find myself laughing a couple of times.
There was a number of supporting characters that was necessary to the comical effect of the movie. The audience got to root for Larry and watch him succeed. It was a feel good movie with a touch of romance.
..just sit back and enjoy it.
