Review of Larry Crowne (2011) by Brendon M — 20 Dec 2011
Unfortunately, Tom Hanks lays a dud of a film here regarding the recent economic downturn as a way to show movie audiences that things will be alright and it is just a matter of starting over. That being said, the film mainly suffers from Hanks casting himself and Julia Roberts as the two leads in the piece in what is supposed to be about thiftness and the bare necessities, as well as Hanks being an employee at a big box chain, an every man image which was right for a while but who is now highly recognized as some of the highest priced acting talent out there which made both the characters unrelatable or beliveble given the situation.
Major turn off along with the fact that everything is done with a spoonful of sugar and rose colored glasses without delving into enough questions or showing some true sacrifices in order to properly engage the audience.
