Review of Larry Crowne (2011) by Martin Y — 28 Dec 2011
Larry Crowne was a good movie but it wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be. The cast was great and the story was interesting but everything surrounding the plot (characters, situations, etc.) was so exaggerated that it made it almost difficult to stay interested.
Some of the time the exaggerations had some positives like the Dibiasi character providing quite a bit of humor. Most of the time though, things like the drunk teacher aspect or the scooter gang were either so cliche or exaggerated that they bordered on ridiculous.
It was still a good movie though so don't let me harp on it too much. The acting was great, the plot had potential... I just think they completely missed on the whole community college experience which is essentially the setting for the entire movie.
