Review of L'Argent (1983) by Daniel F — 30 Sep 2007
One could not ask for more from a film, and in its pristine integrity, it could not be subtracted from. Nary a wasted shot, gesture, breath. Someone said once, in reference to what I don't recall, "the inexorable rigor of a dream.
" I teach this film, and cherish it. Hands pass, doors shut. Humans are not simply framed; the context becomes the whole. A courtroom door remains ajar as the women -- two wives -- pass through. They hold open the possibility of a space that otherwise keeps closing, but perhaps not all the way .
