Review of L'Argent (1983) by Stephen C — 13 Dec 2011
It is easy to see why some people dont like the work of Robert Bresson ,this film can be confusing ,leaving out as it does loads of exposistion which a Hollywood movie would pack the screen with.
Here Bresson keeps things simple telling the story of how a use of a forged note causes the dwonward spiral of one man and the burgeoning criminal career of another.
The film is based on a short story by Leo Tolstoy and the film really gets under your skin as it moves to its shocking finale.
The stiching together of the different story strands may leave some viewers scratching their heads by the end ,but I feel this was the directors intention ,making the audience bear witness to a chain of events that no one has control over.
Not for everyones taste thats true but the film has enough about it to make you go back again and again.
