Review of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) by Luis M — 14 Jul 2010
A female version of Indiana Jones except Lara Croft is a tad more organized.
Director Simon West (When a Stranger Calls, Con Air) puts the first lady of gaming to work on the big screen starring Angelina Jolie in the Tomb Raiding adventure as you might want it.
Synopsis: Lara Croft puts a pause in her life to remember the day of her father's passing. Soon thereafter, she finds an extraordinary looking gadget hidden in a clock that can lead her to finding ancient artifacts that may give her information to her Dad's untimely death.
A movie worth watching for the younger generation delivering comedy, action and of course some Tomb Raiding as it's loved. However, for the adults that truly thrive on characteristics the video game provides, they will not gain anymore interest in this disappointing movie version. Not serious enough, no sense from the action sequences and very little self archaeological incursions.
Angelina Jolie's performance seemed like she was just trying to have fun playing the role then to have taken it as serious as fans would have wanted her to. Surely in the video game Lara Croft is much like Indiana Jones only she doesn't helm a whip, a post-World War 1 pistol and a dusty Fur Fedora. Instead, she has astonishing gymnastic abilities, a rock climbing background and fully equipped 45 auto mags to put away any threat that gets in her way.
A fun watch that has the potential to be more memorable.
