Review of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) by Matt W — 18 May 2012
Here is the problem, the film is a general mess. Although it has some fun scenes, and parts of the action is fun, and there are some good bits here and there from Jolie. On the most part, this film is the queen of cliches, it deals them out, like it is running out of time, and it just drove me crazy.
But the mian problem was the script. This was just plain bad. I mean there were so many random bits, that sometimes weren't even supposed to be funny- like a scene on a helicopter, where they suddenly reference to their ass being numb.
Weird. The problem ,also, was the fact that in all the scenes I didn't feel anything for any of the characters, when anything was happening.I believe this to be due to the fact that the way the movie has been put together is quite poor, and it seems to cut off every shot a little bit too soon, meaning you don't feel any build up of tension- but also due to the llaughable script, and the many cliches, it is nothing that you haven't seen before, and it just puts you off.
everything is tooo generic, including the villain, and the payoff is quite disappointing. although some chemistry in a few scenes between the big baddie, and Lady Croft, I think you will have more fun counting the amount of shoddy accents.
Now I leave you with two questions, how did Jolie get so much work after this, not saying she is a bad actress now, but also, why is Daniel Craig in this movie?
