Review of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) by Delol S — 09 Mar 2013
Wow... being a long time fan of the game series, of-course I was gonna see this film when it came out and I wish I never re-watched it. Angelina Jolie does really well as a likeable, attractive Lara and her stunts and gun play is very convincing.
visually the film is impressive and it's nice to see her on screen. But, with all these positives, there's too much negatives to out way them. Daniel Craig plays an American, Jolie a Brit... a little silly.
Why is she fighting a robot in her mansion. The whole idea of the secret society and such generates so little emotion that I can't even recall the name. Lara Croft takes on a 10 strong team of armed commandos, not a scratch, little unbelievable and then fist fights a man in a cave in the finale to get back her watch when a bullet would have done the job.
the game worked superbly well without magic, and too much action, the movie could have done likewise. The films attempt at being a modern indiana jones was a failure and if not for the tongue and cheek of Jolie and her incredibly suitability for the role, it would be near unwatchable!!
