Review of Landscape in the Mist (1988) by Ian I — 29 May 2007
In the middle of the night, a little girl and her younger brother go off in search of their father, knowing only that he lives in Germany. Along the way to the German border, the children encounter a series of father-like figures and a bizarre string of inexplicable events.
The line between the children's imaginations and reality is blurred, and the result is a film of rare poetic beauty. This film can at times seem unsettling and difficult, but it is more rewarding and deeply affecting than most movies out there.
